Dordt College Softball vs. Sioux Falls

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender softball team surrendered an unearned run in the first inning of their doubleheader with Sioux Falls at Open Space Park in Sioux Center, Iowa and then shut the Cougars out for the rest of the night. Dordt took game one by a 9-1 final and finished the game off by virtue of the eight run difference rule with one out in the sixth inning.
Katie Farley scored a run in the first inning on a passed ball to make it 1-0 but the Cougars stranded the potential second run at third base. Dordt got three runs in the bottom of the inning when Kristin Santana reached on an error and Becca Hengeveld doubled. A passed ball scored Santana and Hengeveld scored on a passed ball as well to make it 2-1. Amber Soodsma and Sarah Seymour both walked to set the table for Jaci Ver Mulm who got a run in with a single.
Dordt got two more in teh fourth when Megan Huizenga tripled and Amanda Nikkel walked. Kaitlyn Lockhorst ran for Nikkel and stole second base. A wild pitch scored a run and Hengeveld knocked in another with a single.
A triple figured into Dordt's runs in the fifth when Sarah Visser knocked in a pair with a three-bagger.
Dordt ended the game with two runs in the sixth with Sarah Seymour, the GPAC player of the week, plating two with a single with runners at second and third.
Soodsma got the pitching win with five hits allowed, one unearned run, no walks and six strikeouts. Soodsma also scored two runs and walked twice. Hengeveld was 2-4 with a run scored and an rbi with a double and a single and Kristin Santana was 1-4 with two runs scored. Huizenga was 1-2 with a triple and two runs scored and Visser had her triple and two runs batted in.
Sioux Falls' Lindsey Johnson took the loss after working five and a third inning with seven hits allowed, nine runs and seven walks issued with three strikeouts.
