Dordt College Softball vs. Northwestern

(Sioux City, Iowa) The Dordt Defender softball team earned a sweep of the Northwestern Red Raiders on Tuesday, April 7 in Sioux City, Iowa. The sweep was the second straight in conference play for the Defenders and ran their current winning streak to five games in a row.
Dordt struck for six runs in the second inning when they capitalized on five hits and two Northwestern errors. The big hit for Dordt in the inning was a bases loaded double by Sarah Seymour that scored three runs.
Dordt was able to sidestep trouble in the third inning by forcing Northwestern to strand two runners. The Raiders finally broke through with two runs in the fifth inning when they scored a pair of unearned runs and but Dordt got those two back for an 8-2 advantage after Kassandra Heynen singled. Kristin Santana also singled in a run for the six run lead. Northwestern did get a pair in the bottom of the sevneth but the rally was cut short when Amanda Nikke struck out the final two batters of the inning.
Dordt out hit the Raiders 13-6 with Seymour going 3-3 with three runs batted in on a double and two singles. Jaclyn Ver Mulm and Kristin Santana each had two hits with Ver Mulm doubling and Santana had two runs batted in. Amanda Nikkel got the pitching win as she worked four and a third innings of relief and gave five hits and struck out two. Sarah Visser started the game and went two and two-thirds and struck out six.
Dordt is now 11-17 overall and 8-6 in the GPAC. Dordt will face Dakota State on Wednesday in Sioux City at 5:00.
