Dordt College Softball vs. Northwestern

(Sioux City, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender softball team was a 9-5 winner in conference play Tuesday, April 7 against Northwestern. The game was played in Sioux City due to snow cover in Orange City and Sioux Center.
The Defenders scored three runs in the first inning when Dorinda Hibma walked and stole second base with an out. Amber Soodsma singled Hibma in and Sarah Seymour tripled Soodsma in. Seymour then scored when Megan Huizenga delivered a single.
Northwestern got to Dordt for three runs in the second inning off two hits and took a brief lead at 5-3 with another two runs in the fourth on three hits.
Dordt had an answer in the fifth when Soodsma homered to lead off the inning and Kaitlyn Lockhorst scored later in the inning when she ran for Seymour.
The Defenders then won the game with four runs in the top of the seventh when Seymour, the first batter of the frame, tripled and scored on a Jaci Ver Mulm single. Roshelle Wilson singled in two runs to cap the inning with Dordt scoring four runs on a combination of four hits and two errors.
While Dordt was putting nine runs up Soodsma was scattering nine hits and struck out four for the complete game win.
Seymour was a perfect 4-4 at the plate with two runs scored and run batted in on two triples and two singles. Ver Mulm had two hits and two runs batted in and Soodsma was 3-5 with two runs and two runs batted in.
Dordt outhit Northwestern 12-9 in the win.
