Dordt College Softball vs. Midland Lutheran

(Fremont, Nebraska) Dordt College broke through for two runs but was out-hit 8-3 in a 4-2 loss to Midland Lutheran on Wednesday night in game two of the conference doubleheader. Dordt slips to 12-10 in the GPAC with two conference games remaining on Saturday.

Midland Lutheran got two in during their half of the first. Midland got those two runs on two hits and left the bases loaded as Dordt pitcher Sarah Visser was able to work out of the potentially huge Warrior inning. Dordt got a run back in the second when Sarah Seymour reached on an error and eventually scored on a Megan Huizenga sacrifice fly. Dordt had the tying run thrown out at the plate in the fifth inning after Jaclyn Ver Mulm and Sarah Visser singled. Ver Mulm was thrown out at the plate trying to score on Visser's single. Ver Mulm moved in to scoring position on a sacrifice. Midland Lutheran pushed one run across in the fifth. The two teams traded runs in the sixth with Dordt getting a double by Kassandra Heynen in the frame and Amber Soodsma's grounder that was mishandled by the Warriors allowing Heynen to score.

Dordt's three hits came from Ver Mulm, Visser and Heynen and Visser was the pitcher of record for the Defenders with six innings pitched, eight hits and four runs allowed and she walked five with eight strikeouts.

Dordt is now 12-10 in the GPAC and 17-21 overall while Midland Lutheran improves to 28-13 overall and 13-7 in a quickly tightening race for second place in the league.

Dordt faces Dakota State in non-loop play on Thursday in Madison, South Dakota and finish off the regular season against Dana on Saturday, April 25 at home.
