Dordt College Softball vs. Dakota Wesleyan

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender softball team used a two run bottom of the seventh and a double play in the top of the 11th to set themselves up for a 7-6 11 inning win over the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers in game one of their doubleheader on Friday in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Defenders squandered a 3-1 lead after five innings before winning the marathon affair.
Dordt scored their first three runs in unearned fashion.
Dordt's first run came when Amber Soodsma walked and stole second. She advanced to third on an error by the shortstop and scored on the same play, advancing two bases on the throwing error. Dordt's second run came in the third when Soodsma reached on an error and Dorinda Hibma scored from second when the throw got away from the first baseman. Wesleyan responded with a run on three hits in the fourth but the Defenders got that run back when Becca Hengeveld was safe on an error allowing Kaitlyn Lockhorst to score. Lockhorst was running for Amanda Nikkel who had reached on an error.
Three runs on four errors and a hit in the sixth gave Wesleyan the lead at 4-3 and the Tigers were up 5-3 when Dordt scored two runs in the seventh with Nikkel and Kristin Santana each walking. Hibma bunted for a single to load the bases. An Amber Soodsma double scored two runs to tie it. Both teams scored in the tenth with Dordt getting their run on a Ver Mulm bunt to advance Sarah Seymour and Megan Huizenga got credit for a run batted in with a fly ball to right. Dordt won the game in the 11th when Mizza Ver Haar ran for Sarah Visser to start the game in the international tiebreaker and she scored on a Kristin Santana double.
Dordt was out hit 12-8. Amber Soodsma got the win with 12 strikeouts and two earned runs allowed. She walked three and allowed 12 hits. Brandi Neskrassoff was the losing pitcher in relief and allowed two runs with two strikeouts.
Sanatana was the only batter with multiple hits for Dordt while six other players had single base hits. Soodsma had three runs batted in.
