(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Morningside Mustangs erupted for eight runs in the sixth inning to break open a 1-1 tie and took an 9-1 decision over the Dordt Defenders in conference softball in Sioux Center, Iowa on Wednesday, April 1.

The Defenders got a run in the first inning when Dorinda Hibma reached on an error and was knocked in from second on an Amber Soodsma single.

Morningside tied the game with a run in the fifth and then banged out eight runs in the sixth while sending 13 batters to the plate. Kendra Klein struck for a two-run homerun in the inning for the final margin of 9-1.

Dordt was outhit 11-2 with Soodsma getting both hits on a pair of singles. Sarah Visser took the loss while working five and two-thirds innings and gave up ten hits, nine runs, three walks and she struck out five.

Kelly Baumgart got the win with two hits allowed and she struck out ten while walking no one. Brandi Burke, Kendra Klein and Cara De Stigter all had two hits for Morningside.
