Dordt College Softball vs. Doane

(Sioux City, Iowa) The Dordt College softball team lost an 8-3 conference decision to Doane College in game one of two played at Sioux City, Iowa. The games were played as part of a revamped schedule at the Morningside Invitational and will count towards the conference standings, taking the place of the April 25 doubleheader scheduled in Crete, Nebraska.
Fireworks filled the third inning with Doane scoring six in the top of the frame to stretch the lead out to 7-0. Dordt scored three in their half of the inning when Amber Nikkel walked, advanced on a passed ball and scored when Rashelle Wilson smacked a single to scorer her. Kristin Santana was hit by a pitch and Amber Soodsma delivered a two run single to make it 7-3.
Doane got the final run of the game in the sixth. Dordt threatened in both the sixth and seventh innings, loading the bases in both frames but were unable to get the timely hit to put the pressure on.
Dordt was out hit in the game 10-6 with Jen Liddell getting the win while allowing three hits and she walked three with three strikeouts. Dordt's Amber Soodsma had two hits with two runs batted in and Sarah Seymour was 2-3 at the plate.
Sarah Visser started the game and was the pitcher of record for the Defenders with six hits allowed over three innings with seven runs given up and struck out four. Amanda Nikkel pitched the final four innings and was touched for four hits with a run allowed.
Dordt is 2-5 in the league with the loss and the two teams meet a second time at 2:00 this afternoon.
