Dordt College Softball vs. Nebraska Wesleyan

(Lincoln, Nebraska) The Dordt College softball team earned a 4-2 win over the host Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves on Saturday, March 21 in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Defenders were outhit 10-8 but capitalized on four fielding errors by the home team.
Dordt scored one in the first when Megan Huizenga doubled in Becca Hengeveld who reached with a single and moved to second on a Amber Soodsma sacrifice. Dordt staked themselves to a 2-0 lead when Dorinda Hibma smacked an rbi double that scored Amanda Nikkel in the second. Nikkel reached initially on an error for the unearned run.
Back to back one run frames in the second and third tied the game for Wesleyan but Dordt rebounded for two runs in the fifth inning when Huizenga hit another rbi double and Soodsma had a single to score a run.
Soodsma earned the pitching win with ten hits allowed and one walk with four strikeouts. Huizenga had three hits and two runs batted in wth a pair of doubles and a single. Hengeveld had two singles and two runs scored. Soodsma was 2-3 with a run batted in and Hibma accounted for Dordt's eighth hit with a run scoring double.
Dordt is now 2-2 in the league and 5-13 overall. The loss is Wesleyan's first in four GPAC outings and they are 9-4 overall. Dordt is scheduled to host Dakota State on Tuesday, March 24.
