Dordt College Softball vs. Concordia

(Seward, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defenders bounced back from a loss in game one of their doubleheader with Concordia on Friday night, March 20 to get a 3-2,eight inning decision in game two. The Defenders made the most of four hits to garner the win.
The Defenders scored in the top of the fourth inning when, with two outs, Jaclyn Ver Mulm and Amanda Nikkel earned back to back walks. Kristin Santana was then hit by a pitch, and with the Concordia pitcher struggling to find the strike zone, Becca Hengeveld reached on a bases loaded walk for the first run of the game.
Concordia got a run back in the sixth for a tie and after a scoreless seventh, the two teams went to extra frames. Applying the international tiebreaker, Dordt placed Sarah Visser on second game and she advanced on a ground out. Nikkel then pushed her in with a single and Becca Hengeveled reached on an error which allowed another run to score. Concordia was able to get a run in during their half of the eighth but the hosts stranded the tying run at second base on a ground out to the pitcher.
Amber Soodsma got the win, going the complete eight innings. She walked two and struck out 11 while getting charged with one earned run. Kristin Santana had multiple hits for the Defenders and was 2-3. Hengeveld got credit for two runs knocked in and Soodsma and Nikkel had Dordt's two other hits.
Dordt is now 4-12 overall and 1-1 in the GPAC while Concordia is 5-6 and 1-1. Dordt will face Nebraska Wesleyan tomorrow, March 21 in the final doubleheader of their Spring Break trip.
