Dordt College Softball vs. Mount Marty

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender softball team bounced back for a 5-0 win over Mount Marty in game two of their twinbill on Wednesday night in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Defenders got a three-hit pitching performance from Sarah Visser and scored in four of the first five innings for the 5-0 win, outhitting the visitors 11-3 for their second win of the GPAC season.
Dordt opened the scoring when Becca Hengeveld tripled and Melissa Ver Haar sent her home with a single. Jaclyn Ver Mulm had a double and Hengeveld delivered a hit in the second inning for a 2-0 lead. The Defenders got another in the third when Amber Soodsma singled and Kassandra Heynen eventually got her in with a single. After a scoreless fourth the Defenders scored two in the fifth with a Heynen double, a Ver Mulm single for a run scored and Ver Mulm eventually scored on an Amanda Nikkel sacrifice fly.
While the Dordt bats were coming to life, Sarah Visser was pitching a gem, walking none and striking out 12 with just three hits allowed for the win.
Hengeveld, Heynen, Ver Mulm and Visser all had two hits for the 5-27 Defenders. Mount Marty is now 3-27 overall and 2-20 in the GPAC while Dordt is 2-16 in the loop.
Dordt is scheduled to play Dana at Blair, Nebraska on Friday night and will host Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. The Defenders conclude the season at home against Midland Lutheran on Monday, April 28.
