Dordt College Softball vs. Northwestern

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender softball team lost a 6-1 decision in game two of their doubleheader with Northwestern in Sioux Center on Tuesday, April 15.

Dordt scored first when they plated a run in the bottom of the first inning when Becca Hengeveld singled, stole second, reached third on a passed ball and stole home. Northwestern scored four in the fourth and two in the fifth and banged out ten hits.

Dordt's Sarah Visser started the game and went four innings and allowed four runs-three of them earned and walked one with four strikeouts. Carissa Hondred worked the last three innings and was charged with two runs-neither earned and allowed four hits with four strikeouts. Gabriella Burrola got the win for Northwestern by pitching the distance and allowing five hits with one walk and struck out six.

Becca Hengeveld, Jaclyn Ver Mulm, Kassandra Heynen, Suzi Butier and Melissa Ver Haar all had a hit for Dordt with Ver Haar and Butier getting credit for doubles.

Dordt is now 4-20 overall and 1-9 in the GPAC while Northwestern is 16-12 and 6-4 overall. Dordt hosts Briar Cliff on Wednesday, April 16.
