Dordt College Softball vs. Northwestern

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Northwestern Red Raiders beat Dordt 6-0 in the first game of their doubleheader in GPAC softball play on Tuesday night, April 15 in Sioux Center.
Northwestern scored one in the first after capitalizing on a leadoff walk and both pitchers settled into a battle for the next four and half innings with the score remaining 1-0. Dordt had a chance in the third inning when Jaclyn Ver Mulm walked and Amber Soodsma reached on an infield single but the Defenders were retired with the runners at first and second.
Northwestern got two in the top of the sixth and then pushed the game out of reach with three in the seventh for a 6-0 win.
Dordt got three hits, all singles, from Becca Hengeveld, Amber Soodsma and Kassandra Heynen. Soodsma took the loss, allowing 7 hits with five walks and five strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Lexy Determan was credited with the win and struck out 16 while walking three. Northwestern's Sara Curry was 3-3 with two runs batted in and Lizz Swanson was 2-4 with two runs scored.
Northwestern improves to 15-12 overall and 5-4 in the league and Dordt slips to 4-19 and 1-8.
