Dordt College Softball vs. Morningside

(Sioux City, Iowa) Dordt College dropped a 10-3 decision to Morningside in game two of their doubleheader in Sioux City on Wednesday night.
Morningside grabbed an early 3-0 lead with three in the first inning and Dordt got one back in the third when Becca Hengeveld scored from third on a throwing error. Hengeveld figured into Dordt's second run of the game when she singled, advanced to second on a sacrifice and third on a throwing error. Amber Soodsma then sent her in with a double. Down 3-2, the Defenders gave up three in the fifth and got one back in the sixth on an Amanda Nikkel homerun. Mornignside ended the scoring with four in the bottom of the sixth and Dordt went scoreless in the seventh.
Dordt managed seven hits against Whitney McElrath with Soodsma going 2-4 with a run batted in and a double. Hengeveld had two runs scored and Kassandra Heynen and Suzi Butier each had base knocks.
Sarah Visser took the complete game loss and gave up 12 hits and ten earned runs with seven walks and three strikeouts. McElrath had one walk allowed and three strikeouts.
Morningside wi now 22-5 overall and 8-2 in the league while Dordt is 4-18 overall and 1-7 in the league. Dordt is scheduled to host Nebraska Wesleyan this Friday and Midland Lutheran on Saturday.
