Dordt College Softball vs. Sioux Falls

(Sioux Falls, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defender softball team earned their first conference win of the season with a 6-4 win on the road over the Sioux Falls Cougars on Monday, April 7 in Sioux Falls.
The Defenders scored in the third inning on a Jaclyn Ver Mulm rbi single to take a 1-0 lead. The hosts managed to tie the game with a run in the fifth and but the Defenders broke the tie with three in the sixth frame when Ver Mulm knocked another urn in and Sarah Seymour plated a run with a double and Kassandra Heynen added a run with a single.
Sioux Falls tied it with three more in the sixth but the Defenders got two across in the top of the seventh inning on a Becca Hengeveld single and Ver Mulm knocked in her third run of the night with another single. Amber Soodsma pitched the seventh inning in relief of Sarah Visser and earned the save with Visser getting credit for the win.
Dordt outhit the hosts 15-10 and stranded 13 on base to 10 for the Cougars. Becca Hengeveld was 4-5 with an rbi while Ver Mulm was 3-5 with three runs batted in. Seymour had a pair of doubles and Heynen and Suzi Butier had two hits a piece and Butier scored twice.
Visser went six innings and gave up nine hits and four runs--one of them earned with eight strikeouts. Soodsma allowed one hit and struck out two in her inning of relief.
