(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender softball team lost a heartbreaking 2-0 decision in eight innings to the Hastings Broncos Friday night in game two of their doubleheader in Sioux Center.

Both of the Broncos' runs were unearned as the Defenders had a costly throwing error in the inning that allowed the runners to move up into scoring position. The Defenders did load the bases in the bottom of the inning when Kristin Santana bunted her way on and Amanda Pothoven walked. An Amber Daane single loaded the bases with one out but the Defenders were unable to touch Sarah Milne on the next two at-bats, losing the extra inning affair by a 2-0 count.

Pothoven had a triple and a single to account for two of Dordt's six hits. Hastings got to Dordt starter Carissa Van Gorp for eight hits and two runs while having three strikeout victims and no walks. Milne was the winner and struck out nine with two walks.

Dordt is now 5-22 overall and 2-12 in the GPAC while Hastings improves to 7-9 in the GPAC and 14-17 overall.
