Dordt College Softball vs. Kansas Wesleyan
March 31, 2007
(Dakota Dome, Vermillion, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defender softball team turned in a 9-3, five inning win over Kansas Wesleyan late Saturday night in a game played at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, South Dakota as part of a tournament hosted by Morningside. The tournament was moved indoors due to the heavy rain in Sioux City this weekend.
Dordt scored five runs in the first inning by virtue of five walks to overcome a 1-0 deficit. Wesleyan scored two in the third inning to cut the lead down but a double by Amanda Pothoven with two outs followed by a Mandy Visser triple pushed Dordt in front by a 6-3 margin. Dordt then scored three more in the fifth before the game was stopped due to tournament imposed time limit. Liz De Vries singled in that inning and moved up on a wild pitch. Sarah Boer was walked and Sarah Visser followed with a single for a run batted in. Beth Van Maanen then singled in another run and Amanda Pothoven capped the scoring with a fielder's choice that pushed the ninth run of the night across.
Dordt's Sarah Visser was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs on three hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Carissa Van Gorp earned the save with an inning of relief with one walk allowed. Mandy Visser had Dordt's only multiple hit game with a 2-3 performance at the plate with two runs batted in. Amanda Pothoven had a double and two runs scored with a run batted in while Jackie Ver Mulm was good for a single and an rbi.
