Dordt College Softball vs. Dakota State

(Vermillion, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defender softball team dropped their second game of a doubleheader with Dakota State at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, South Dakota late Friday night by 9-7 score. Oddly, both games finished with identical 9-7 scores.
Dordt got one in the first and held a 2-0 lead after the top of the third before the Trojans got on the board in the bottom of the third inning. After a scoreless fourth, the Defenders took what seemed to be a comfortable 4-1 lead with two runs in the fourth inning. The home team for the game, Dakota State, answered with four in the fifth for their first lead at 5-4. Dordt retook the lead in the sixth with three runs but the lead didn't last with Dakota State getting four across in the sixth for the final margin of victory. Dordt went without incident in the top of the seventh.
Dordt was led by Amanda Pothoven's 3-4 at the plate with a run scored. Jaclyn Ver Mulm had three runs batted in on a homerun and three bases on balls. Susi Butier was 2-2 with a run batted as Dordt had 10 base knocks.
Dakota State got to Dordt pitching for 12 hits and both teams committed three errors. Sarah Visser worked five and two-thirds innings and was saddled with the loss, allowing 12 hits, nine runs and walked three. She struck out five. Tessa Prins got the final out for Dordt. Steph Brakel earned the win for Dakota State.
Dordt is now 3-12 and will face Morningside on Monday, April 9 at 4:00 in GPAC doubleheader action.
