Dordt College Softball vs. Texas Wesleyan

(Dallas, Texas) The Texas Wesleyan Rams took the first to two games in a doubleheader with Dordt College by a final score of 10-5 this afternoon.
The Defenders struck first with a pair of runs in the first inning when Melissa Ver Haar singled and Amanda Pothoven singled. The two runners moved up to second and third and then scored on a wild pitch and an error. Texas Wesleyan got one run back in the second and took the lead with five runs in the third inning. Trailing 6-2, the Defenders got a lead off homerun from Amanda Pothoven in the fourth inning to trim the lead ot 6-3 but the hosts tacked on two more in the bottom of the frame.
Ver Haar and Beth Van Maanen singled in the fifth and a Pothoven single knocked Ver Haar in. A Mandy Visser groundout plated Van Maanen for the final run of the game for Dordt.
Dordt stranded four and Wesleyan left ten on base. Carissa Van Gorp took the loss, pitching two and 2/3 innings, allowing nine hits and six earned runs with three walks. Tessa Prins came on in relief and worked three and 1/3 inning, allowing five hits and four runs with two walks and a strikeout. Pothoven was 3-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two runs batted in with a homerun and two singles. Ver Haar was 2-4 with two runs scored and stolen base. Beth Van Maanen, Mandy Visser and Sarah Boer each had a hit with Boer belting a two-bagger.
Dordt is now 0-3 while Wesleyan improved to 6-16.
