Dordt College Softball vs. Briar Cliff

(Sioux City, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender softball team lost a heartbreaker in Sioux City on Tuesday in game two of their doubleheader with the Briar Cliff Chargers, dropping a 5-4 decision.
Dordt scored a run in the top of the first when Liz De Vries singled in Jacki VerMulm who had reached initially after being hit by a pitch.
Briar Cliff got two runs back in the fourth but the Defenders again took the lead in the sixth with three runs. Amanda Pothoven got a run in with a sacrifice fly and De Vries knocked in her second run with a double. Amber Daane also slugged a double that scored a run. The lead wouldn't hold though as the Defenders gave up three runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth to trail 5-4. Dordt did have a chance in the seventh when they got runners at the corners with one out but a infield popout and a grounder ended the threat.
Sarah Visser was saddled with the loss, allowing eight hits and four earned runs while walking two. Jaclyn Ver Mulm had three of Dordt's seven hits with two runs scored. Liz De Vries was 2-4 with two runs batted in and Amanda Pothoven and Amber Daane accounted for the other two Dordt College hits.
Dordt drops to 0-10 in the conference and 3-20 overall while the Chargers improve to 7-5 in the league and 15-11 overall.
