Dordt College Softball vs. Mount Marty

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Lady Defender softball team earned a sweep in Great Plains Athletic Conference softball Wednesday, April 26 at Sioux Center, Iowa.

Carissa Van Gorp worked her second complete game for the win, allowing one run on six hits and struck out eight. The one run was unearned for Mount Marty.

The Lady Lancers scored one run in the first inning but the Lady Defenders came right back with a run when a Megan Raman triple knocked in Jill Gruppen. Dordt got three more runs in the third inning when Mandy Visser laced a triple after Gruppen, Raman and Amanda Pothoven had singled to load the bases. Dordt pushed one more across when Cara Mulder singled and advanced to third on two sacrifice bunts and scored with two outs when Amber Daane singled.

Dordt is now 11-11 and solidified their bid for a post-season berth in the conference tournament. The Lady Defenders are currently eighth in the conference with two games remaining. Van Gorp evened her record at 11-11 for the Lady Defenders on the mound.
