Dordt College Softball vs. Northwestern

(NAIA Region IV Tournament) Dordt College qualifies for the NAIA National Softball Tournament May 18-22 at Decatur, Alabama, as the champion of NAIA Region IV. The Lady Defenders had to come back through the loser's bracket and win five straight games to win the regional in Belevue, Nebraska. Dordt is now 35-14, and has posted 16 shut-out wins this season. Dordt's Dawn Van Kley was named the NAIA Region IV Player-of-the-Year, and the GPAC Pitcher-of-the-Year. Van Kley posted 29 strikeouts in the tournament, and had 12 strikeouts in the loser's bracket championship win versus Newman. Van Kley has won 13 games in a row, and won three games at the regional. Dordt head coach Dr. Don Draayer was named NAIA Region IV Coach-of-the-Year. The NAIA National Tournament field will be announced on Monday, complete with schedule of games at Decatur, Alabama. This is the first time that Dordt has qualified for the NAIA National Softball Tournament.
