(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt Defender women suffered their fourth straight shutout, losing 5-0 to College of St. Mary (Neb.) in non-conference play Tuesday.

St. Mary scored three goals early against Dordt’s senior keeper Katie Kortman to put the game out of reach. Junior Abby Zach scored in the seventh minute to open the scoring. Sophomore Sarah McGuire followed with a pair of quick goals in the 13th and 20th minutes – her first tallies of the year.

The Flames of St. Mary scored twice more in the second half. Zach added her second goal of the game in the 51st minute, while freshman Caroline Troscher scored in the final 60 seconds. When all was said and done, Kortman allowed five goals and made 13 saves.

Dordt’s defense improved as the game went on, but their offense failed to mount any consistent attacks. Only sophomore Nicole Postman was able to muster a shot on goal. St. Mary, meanwhile, recorded 18.

The Defenders (0-4-0) face Friends University on Saturday, Sept. 14 to continue non-conference play.
