The Dordt women’s soccer team (1-9-3), still seeking their first conference win, managed to earn a 1-1 tie against the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers on Wednesday afternoon.
During their recent five-game losing streak, Dordt hadn’t scored a goal in four-plus games, getting outscored 18-0 in that span. Junior Katie Kortman’s game-tying goal in the 71st minute ended the Defenders’ scoreless skid at 436 minutes of soccer.
Trailing 1-0, the former goalie, Kortman, took a pass in front of the net from Shantelle Gritters and hoisted a shot into the back of the net to knot the game. Kortman would later exit with an injured right ankle.
The Tigers (2-6-1) were the first to score in the 63rd minute. Senior Yutzil Rodriguez sent a long ball from the sideline in towards Dordt goalie Emily Holz and received a friendly bounce off the left post to notch her second goal of the season.
Holz had her best showing in goal in her third game replacing Kortman. She made four saves including a catch on an overtime shot attempt that seemed destined for the bottom-right corner.
Dordt was outshot on goal 8-4.
The Defenders, now 0-4-1 in conference, are still in search of their first home win. They will play on the road Saturday against Midland, and again at Briar Cliff Tuesday, before returning home to face Doane on October 20th.
Dakota Wesleyan, 2-3-1 in conference, will take on Morningside next Tuesday.
