Dordt College Women's Soccer vs. Northwestern

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defenders handled Northwestern by a 3-2 count in women's soccer on Tuesday, September 27 in Sioux Center, Iowa.
The Defenders got in the win column in the conference by scoring three straight goals after Northwestern got the first counter. Alli Dunkelberger scored for Northwestern in the fifth minute when she chipped it over Dordt's keeper from 35 yards out.
The Defenders wasted little time in evening the count with an Elise Wedel unassisted goal after she took it away from a Northwestern player in the box and finished in the 12th minute.
The scored stood till halftime when Dordt got a goal from Kelly Smies off and assist from Steph Cooper where she took it away and crossed it back to Smies in the first minute of the second half.
Leading 2-1 the Defenders got a goal they needed for insurance off an Allison Hogan score with the assist going to Rindy De Nooy for a 3-1 advantage in the 51st minute. Northwestern got back to within one with a Tyler Farr goal in the 62nd minute but the Defenders held on for the win.
Dordt outshot the visitors by an 18-13 margin and put 13 shots on goal. Emily Holz got the win in goal with five saves.
Dordt is now 1-1 in the league and 3-6 overall and snapped a five game losing streak. Northwestern is 0-2 in the league and 2-5-2 overall.
Dordt will host Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday at 1:00.
