Dordt College Women's Soccer vs. Mount Mercy

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Dordt College capitalized on two early scoring opportunities and went on to take a 4-1 win over Mount Mercy (Iowa) on Saturday in non-conference soccer played at Sioux Center, Iowa.

The Defenders first goal came off a Rindy De Nooy chance in the 7th minute when Torrey Vasquez gave it to De Nooy after the senior from Sioux Center had given it up first. De Nooy figured into the second goal as well in the 29th minute off an assist from Kelly Smies where De Nooy beat the Jerica Christensen in goal for the Mustangs.

Smies made it 3-0 after a battle in front of the goal in the 44th minute.

The Defenders salted the game away with a Allison Hogan goal in the 52nd minute where the sophomore from Centennial, Colorado dribbled in and found the net in the bottom left corner.

Mount Mercy averted the shut out with a goal by Amelia Parris in the 74th minute.

Dordt outshot the visitors 14-7 with ten of the Dordt chances coming on goal. Katie Kortman made four saves for the Defenders in goal while facing five shots on goal.

Dordt is 1-0 and will face Trinity International (Illinois) on Friday, September 2 in their next action. Mount Mercy drops to 1-2 with the loss.
