Dordt College Women's Soccer vs. Doane
November 2, 2010
(Sioux Center, Iowa) Dordt College advanced in Great Plains Athletic Conference women's soccer tournament action with a 3-0 win over Doane in Sioux Center, Iowa. The win was a reversal of a 1-0 win by Doane late in the season over the Defenders.
Dordt struck late in the first half when Noelle Kreykes headed a goal in off a corner kick by Meghan Warners in the 38th minute for a 1-0 lead. Dordt made it 2-0 a little over three minutes later when Elise Wedel banged in a rebound shot and that's where it stood at halftime.
Kreykes scored a goal for insurance in the 51st minute when she again headed a delivery in from Warners, this time off a free kick, popping the ball over Kelsey Stark in the Doane goal. The 3-0 lead was too much for Doane to overcome with the game ending at 3-0.
Dordt advances after outshooting Doane 15-13 overall and 8-7 on goal. Kreykes got free for five shots on goal for the Defenders and scored her 14th and 15th goals of the season. Her 15 goals are the fourth most on record in the program's history.
Kortman made seven saves in goal with the Dordt defense recording its eighth shutout of the season.
Dordt advances in tournament play with a 13-4-2 record and will play the Hastings-Concordia winner on Saturday, November 6. If Hastings wins the Defenders will travel. If Concordia upsets the Broncos Dordt would host a game on Saturday. Doane ends its season with a 9-7-1 record.
