(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College women's soccer team overcame a slow start to defeat Cardinal Stritch (Wisconsin) in its season opener. Dordt scored the last three goals of the game to win a 3-1 decision on the pitch in Sioux Center.
The Wolves scored the first goal of the game in the 16th minute when Lynn Podkomorski banged in a rebound for a 1-0 lead. Dordt answered with a goal by Rindy De Nooy when she faked the Cardinal Stritch goalkeeper right and found the bottom left corner for the equalizer in the 25th minute. Dordt took the lead later in the half on a Noelle Kreykes shot in the 35th minute.
Dordt added a goal for insurance in the 59th minute on a Kelly Smies header.
Dordt outshot the visitor 17-7 and had nine shots on goal to five for the Wolves. Katie Kortman recorded four saves in goal--two in each half.
Dordt is 1-0 and will host Ashford (Iowa) on Saturday, August 28 at 2:00 for the conclusion of the Pizza Ranch Classic.
