Dordt College Women's Soccer vs. Morningside (Non-Conference)

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt women's soccer team defeated Morningside 3-0 today in a non-conference tilt to improve to 5-0 overall while the Mustangs fall to 1-3.
Sophomore midfielder Kelly Smies (Oostburg, Wisconsin) struck first for Dordt in the 13th minute when she drove a ball from the left side of the 18 into the top right behind Mustang's keeper Adriane Dougherty, the goal was Smies' second of the season. Rindy De Nooy (Sophomore; Sioux Center, Iowa) assisted on the goal.
Morningside's netminder went down with what appeared to be a knee injury just a minute after the Dordt goal and was replaced by Bailey Bichel, who played in net until half without surrendering a goal. Although Dordt managed 14 shots, to Morningside's 1, in the first half they could not find the net again and the score was 1-0 at halftime.
Dordt extended their lead just 7 minutes into the second half when Noelle Kreykes (Junior; St. John, Indiana) headed home her first goal of the season on a Kate Du Mez (Senior; Brookfield, Wisconsin)corner kick in the 52nd minute, beating Emily Heger who played the entire second half in goal for Morningside.
Kate Du Mez rounded out the Dordt scoring in the 78th minute when she bent in a corner kick to give the Defenders a 3-0 lead. The goal was Du Mez's 9th of the year.
Dordt had 13 shots in the second half while Morningside had 4. Steph Goslinga played 80 minutes in goal with 1 save while Rose De Pooter had the final 10 minutes to combine for the clean sheet.
The Defenders head to Mitchell, South Dakota on Wednesday, September 16 for a 6:00 pm game against Dakota Wesleyan to begin the GPAC regular season.
