Dordt College Women's Soccer vs. Waldorf

(Forest City) The Dordt College Defender women's soccer team won their season opener, a 7-1 decision over Waldorf (Iowa) in non-conference play at Forest City, Iowa on Saturday. The Defenders were led by a four goal effort from Kate Du Mez (Senior; Brookfield, Wisconsin) for their first win of the 2009 season.
Dordt got on the board first with a free kick goal by Du Mez in the fourth minute. Waldorf answered with a free kick goal of their own in the 15th minute for a 1-1 tie.
The tie stood until the 35th minute when Du Mez weaved her way through the Waldorf defense for a goal from 25 yards out. The goal came shortly after Du Mez took a shot to the face.
"That was a great solo effort by Kate," said Dordt coach Dave Schenk.
Lindsay Baker (Senior; Grand Rapids, Michigan) got into the act in the 38th minute with a goal off an assist from Elise Wedel (Freshman; Buhler, Kansas). The two would team up for another goal in the 63rd minute after Du Mez made the halftime score 4-1 with a penalty kick goal near the end of the first half in the 40th minute.
Du Mez capped her day with a goal off a Kristi Ouwinga (Senior; Byron Center, Michigan) free kick in the 65th and Morgan Rodenburgh's (Freshman; Sioux Center, Iowa) goal in the 87th minute made the 7-1 final.
Du Mez ended with her four goals and Lindsay Baker had two and Wedel had a pair of assists and Rodenburgh's counter made the total seven. Steph Goslinga (Sophomore; Orange City, Iowa) worked 70 minutes in goal with two saves and Rosalynn De Pooter (Junior; Sarnia, Ontario) worked the final 20 minutes. Dordt blistered the Waldorf goal with 16 shots while Waldorf had three shots on goal.
Dordt is 1-0 and will face Minnesota Crookston on Friday, September 4 in Sioux Center at 2:00. Waldorf falls to 0-1.
