Dordt College Women's Soccer vs. York

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender women's soccer team returned to action Friday, September 12 and earned a 5-0 win over the winless York Panthers in non-conference action. The game was Dordt's final tune-up before taking to the Great Plains Athletic Conference trail next week.

The Defenders got out to a 3-0 halftime lead with Lindsay Landhuis recording a goal off an assist by Sarah Sikkema with 9:13 gone in the game. Just over six minutes later Noelle Kreykes scored off a corner kick by Kate Du Mez for a 2-0 lead. Du Mez had a hand in the next two goals, scoring unassisted in the 21st minute and then scoring on a shot from nearly 25 yards out in the 78th minute--again unassisted. Whitney Elgersma finished off the scoring in the closing minute off a corner kick.

"We used the width of the field fairly well and created a ton of scoring opportunities today. It was a good match for us after not having played since last Wednesday" said Coach Schenk. "We look forward to a couple great practice sessions next week before getting into conference play."

Dordt dominated play in the game, outshooting York 43-0 with 27 of those on goal. York's Jordan Venness had 22 saves in the loss.

Dordt is now 2-1 while York falls to 5-0. The Defenders will face Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday, September 17 at 3:00.
