Dordt College Women's Soccer vs. Bellevue
October 11, 2007
(Sioux Center, Iowa) Dordt dropped to 6-5-1 overall after a double-overtime loss to Bellevue at home. A battle to the end, the game ended in Bellevue's favor with late in the second overtime, ending the game after 106 minutes of play.
Dordt's Kate Du Mez led the offensive attack, scoring both of the Defender's goals unassisted. Du Mez's first goal was a direct shot from the left side, putting the Defenders up 1-0. The Bruins' Vanessa Ramos answered with a shot from the right side to tie the game before the end of the 1st half. Dordt was the first to score after the break when Du Mez's shot from the corner bounced off the goalie and into the back of the net in the 54th minute of play.
The Defenders held the 2-1 lead for 13 more minutes of play. A goal off the foot of Erika Roberts put the Bruins back into the game with 23 minutes remaining in regulation. The high shot from the right just made it over a leaping Rosalyn De Pooter in Dordt's goal. Ramos was credited with the assist. The 2-2 tie then forced the game beyond regulation and into a scoreless first overtime.
Six minutes into the second overtime the Bruins secured the win off of an unassisted goal by senior Jessica Wachtler.
A larger roster was to Bellevue's advantage in the long game. The Bruins saw action from 6 nonstarters, while Dordt had three subs in the double overtime loss. Dordt had a total 7 shots on goal and Bellevue 6. Rosalyn De Pooter made two saves for the Defenders.
The Defenders are 6-5-1 overall while Bellevue builds extends their winning streak to four and is 6-5-2. The Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference member played to a 1-1 tie with Dordt last year in Bellevue.
The Defenders look to bounce back from the non-conference loss when they travel to York, Nebraska this weekend.
