(Mitchell, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defender women's soccer team improved to 4-3-1 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference with a win over Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, South Dakota on Wednesday afternoon by a 5-0 count.
Dordt got on the board four times in the first half, doing their scoring in the span of twenty-one minutes. Sarah Sikkema started the scoring wtih an unassisted goal 14 minutes into the contest. Noelle Kreykes scored three minutes later on an assist from Kate Du Mez and Whitney Elgersma scored an unassisted goal with nineteen minutes remaining in the first half. Sikkema then closed the scoring in the 36th minute off an assist from Lisa Groen.
Dordt made it a 5-0 final when Du Mez scored off an assist from Kristi Ouwinga from a free kick just two minutes into the second half. Rosalyn De Pooter registered the shutout in goal with four saves while the Defenders managed a total of 20 shots on goal.
Dordt is now 4-3-1 in the GPAC and 6-4-1 overall while Dakota Wesleyan drops to 1-13 overall and 0-8 in the league. Dordt will host Bellevue (Nebraska) on Thursday, October 11 beginning at 4:00 in non-conference play.
