(Omaha, Nebraska) The Dordt women faced a tough opponent in the College of St. Mary at Omaha, Nebraska, losing the overtime battle with a score of 2-1 on Thursday night.
The Flames have consistently had strong teams in the past and this year is no exception. Although off to a 1-2 start, CSM opened their season with a 3-0 win over Great Plains Athletic Conference member Dana and faced #10 ranked Northwood during thier trip to Florida, losing 6-0.
In tonight's game both teams were held scoreless in the first half. Dordt took a 1-0 lead seven minutes after the halftime break on a goal by reserve freshman Lex Elgersma. With 8 minutes to go in regulation, the Flames answered with a goal by Melissa King, assisted by Daniela Padilla. Regulation ended with the score tied 1-1.
CSM then found the goal in overtime play with Padilla delivering the game winning assist to Jen Haney for the Flame win.
Dordt is 2-1 this season while the College of Saint Mary Flames are now 2-2. The Flames outshot the Defenders 13-7. Rosalyn De Pooter was in goal for all 94:00 and made two saves for the Defenders.
CSM leads the series 8-1. Last year's game also ended in a 2-1 advantage for the Flames.
