Dordt College Men's Soccer vs. Nebraska Wesleyan

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender men’s soccer team secured a post-season GPAC Tournament berth with a 4-0 win over Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday, November 2 on Senior Day in Sioux Center, Iowa.
The Defenders won their second game in a row and third of the conference season to go with a tie to take the eighth and final slot in the quarterfinal round which opens on Tuesday, November 5. The Defenders will travel to Hastings for a 6:00 match.
The Defenders got there with a three goal performance in the first half and then added another goal in the second half for good measure.
Dordt’s first goal came on a shot by Cody Van Holland in the 10th minute off an assist by Alex Durbin. The two teams were scoreless for the next 24 minutes before Dordt’s Eric Grootenboer scored his eighth goal of the season off an assist by Brady Van Holland. For Van Holland it was his fifth helper of the season. Steven Talsma ended the Dordt dominated first half with a goal in the closing moments of the half off an assist by Shane Schaap to get Dordt to the break up 3-0.
Schaap figured into the last goal of the day when he gave it up to Brady Van Holland in the 70th minute to help secure the win. For Van Holland the goal was his ninth of the season.
Dordt had a decided advantage with 11 shots on goal and 17 shots overall. Nebraska Wesleyan mustered five shots overall and one shot on goal. Jon Brinkerhoff made the save on the shot on goal he faced to preserve the shutout.
Dordt takes a 5-12-1 overall mark and 3-6-1 record into its game with Hastings. Hastings won the regular season meeting by a 1-0 score on October 19 in Sioux Center. The winner of the quarterfinal round contest will face the winner of the Concordia-Northwestern winner. The semifinal round is Saturday, November 9.
