The Dordt College men dropped their fourth straight game, while rival Northwestern won their fifth in a row by beating the Defenders 2-0 on a chilly Tuesday afternoon.
Junior Gabriel Goncalves scored in the first half, and senior Nick Hengst scored in the second half to propel the Red Raiders to their third consecutive two-goal victory.
Goncalves’ 27th-minute goal was credited after he launched a shot off the crossbar that deflected downward and over the goal line, according to the linesman. It was his seventh goal of the season and gave the Raiders a 1-0 halftime lead.
Dordt College took the momentum early in the second half with some excellent scoring opportunities, but could not convert against sophomore keeper Aaron Bosch.
Hengst’s tally in the 78th minute off a free kick put the contest out of reach.
Dordt was shut out for the second consecutive game, while Northwestern recorded its third straight shutout of GPAC teams.
The Defenders, sitting in 10th place, dropped to 3-11-1 (1-5-1) on the season. Northwestern stayed atop the conference by moving to 10-5-1 (6-1-1).
Dordt travels to Crete, Neb., to take on Doane College on Saturday, Oct. 26.
