Dordt College Men's Soccer vs. Briar Cliff
October 9, 2013
(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College men dropped a 1-0 game to Briar Cliff on Wednesday in GPAC conference action.
Freshman Pedro Fonseca scored a goal in the 73rd minute to give the Chargers the lead. His 25-yard strike came in transition after Dordt had dominated the offensive zone for most of the half.
The Defenders outshot Briar Cliff 14-8 for the match but couldn’t beat senior keeper Dan Snider. The two teams only managed nine shots on goal combined because of a strong wind blowing across the field – Dordt with six and Briar Cliff with three.
Dordt was also playing short-handed. Junior Brady Van Holland was absent due to yellow cards, junior Ryan Couperus remained sidelined with an injury, and senior Mason Davis went down with a left-leg injury in the second half.
The Defenders dropped to 3-8-1 (1-2-1), while the Chargers won their first conference game and moved to 4-9-0 (1-3-0).
Dordt takes on Morningside next with a road contest on Oct. 12.
