The Dordt Defenders continued their perennial dominance of non-conference foes Friday, beating Waldorf 6-2 and winning their second straight season opener.

Senior Josh Brinkerhoff and junior Steven Talsma each scored two goals and Brady Van Holland notched two assists to pace the Defenders, while new goalie Jon Brinkerhoff---brother of his teammate Josh---made four saves to protect the Dordt goal.

It didnít take long to get the scoring underway as Talsma broke away for a nifty goal in the fourth minute to give Dordt a lead they would never relinquish. Brinkerhoff made his two-goal contribution in a five-minute span, scoring on a header in the 30th minute and a breakaway in the 35th minute.

Holding a 3-0 lead at halftime, the Defenders only rough stretch came mid-way into the second half. Senior Quinn Hesterlee for Waldorf scored a 64th minute goal on a free kick that caught Dordt off guard to make it 3-1. Talsma answered moments later with a blistering shot past goalie Alejandro Olmos to give Dordt back a three-goal lead, but the Warriorsí Benjamin Blair cut it to two again with a 70th minute tally.

The Defender offense didnít miss a beat, however, as senior Scott Van Wylen and freshman Shane Schaap sealed the deal with goals in the final ten minutes.

With big shoes to fill from last yearís graduating class, coach Dave Schenk utilized the services of four freshmen: Kyle Vander Zee, Shane Schaap, Colin Middel, and Damon Vander Maten. The menís team is looking to find replacements for talented mid-fielder Tom Stepanek and forwards Joe Lammers and Phil Nywening, among others.

The win for Dordt (1-0-0) was their 11th straight over non-GPAC teams. They will take on Trinity Christian Saturday at 3:00, available via webcast.

Waldorf drops to 0-3 with their loss and will play Northwestern on Saturday.
