Dordt College Men's Soccer vs. Morningside

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender men's soccer team ran its season opening win streak to seven with a 2-1 win over Morningside Wednesday afternoon, September 21, in non-conference action at Sioux Center, Iowa.

The Defenders took a 1-0 lead at the intermission on a Phil Nywening goal in the 36th minute where the senior dribbled through the defense and beat the Morningside keeper for the lead.

The visitors got an equalizing goal in the 51st minute when Blake Fostvedt made good on an unassisted goal for the 1-1 tie. Dordt mounted an immediate response, scoring in the 56th minute when David Miedema banged the eventual gamewinner in off an assist from Scott Van Wylen where Van Wylen passed in to the back side and Miedema was there to finish it.

Dordt outshot the visitors 21-12 and put 17 on frame to three for the Mustangs. Brian Verwolf made two saves in goal for the Defenders who open conference play against Concordia on Saturday, September 24 in Seward, Nebraska. Morningside falls to 2-6.
