(Sioux Center, Iowa) Dordt College managed a 2-0 win over Nebraska Wesleyan in Great Plains Athletic Conference men's soccer on Saturday, October 1 in Sioux Center, Iowa.
The Defenders got both of their goals in the first half with Derick Sackey scoring for his sixth goal of the seaosn in the 13th minute. The Defenders then got a second goal just before the half when Cameron Stuive sent his shot into the upper right corner with six seconds left in the half for a 2-0 halftime advantage.
The game took on a somber tone when Alex Geylense was injured in the 54th minute and was transported to the hospital after being knocked unconscious on a collision. Geylense returned to campus early Saturday evening.
Dordt's 2-0 lead held for the duration of the second half and the Defenders took their ninth win in ten starts. Dordt outshot the visitors 10-1 on goal with Brian Verwolf getting the shut out in goal for the Defenders.
Nebraska Wesleyan falls to 0-3 in the league and 1-9 overall.
Dordt will travel to Yankton, South Dakota on Tuesday for its next GPAC action.
