Dordt College Men's Soccer vs. Doane

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Phil Nywening scored his fifth goal in three games and the Dordt Defenders beat Doane in a Great Plains Athletic Conference soccer game Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Nywening scored on a through ball from Scott Van Wylen in the 23rd minute and the Defenders withstood an 18 shot barrage by Doane to secure the win.

Brian Verwolf made three saves in goal as the Defenders managed four shots of their own on goal. Doane had eight corner kicks to two for the Defenders with Doane managing 14 shots in the second half alone.

Doane put together a final charge with Devon Strecker putting a shot on frame with just under three minutes remaining that Verwolf managed to save.

Dordt improved to 7-8-2 overall and 4-5-1 in the league while Doane falls to 10-6 overall and 7-3 in league play. Dordt concludes the regular season on Tuesday when they travel to Briar Cliff for a 3:00 match.
