Dordt College Men's Soccer vs. Cardinal Stritch

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Dordt College played from behind the entire game this afternoon in their soccer match with Cardinal Stritch (Wisconsin) and lost a 4-3 decision in the season opener.
The Wolves scored on a Ben Allen penalty kick in the 15th minute to take a 1-0 lead with the Defenders answering back in the 20th minute to to it. To get the equalizer, Scott Van Wylen knocked in a pass from Phil Nywening off an indirect kick.
Cardinal Stritch's Shay Douglas then scored the first of three goals in the 26th minute and followed shortly after with another counter in the 29th minute. Dordt did get back to within 3-2 on a Tom Stepanek free kick from just inside the half stripe that was misplayed by the Stritch keeper.
Douglas got what turned out to be the game winner in the 57th minute while Dordt's Eric Grootenboer scored late in the 90th minute from just outside the box over the reach of the Stritch keeper.
Brian Verwolf faced 11 shots and made two saves with Cardinal Stritch putting six shots on frame. Dordt was outshot 11-8.
Dordt will host Ashford (Iowa) on Friday while Cardinal Stritch faces Northwestern in Orange City.
