Dordt College Men's Soccer vs. Morningside

(Sioux City, IA) The Dordt College Defender men's soccer team lost a 3-1 decision on the road at Morningside on Tuesday night, October 27 in Sioux City, Iowa. All the scoring was done in the first half of the 3-1 decision with Dordt dropping to 5-6 in the process.
Morningside scored in the 9th minute when Rick Kievits scored the first of two goals for the Mustangs. Dordt's Phil Nywening responded with his seventh goal of the season as he tucked the ball into the net off an assist by David Miedema to tie the game in the 12th minute. Goals by the Mustangs in the 21st and 43rd minutes gave them the final margin of victory with Cameron Meter getting one by Dordt's goalkeeper, Brian Verwolf for a 2-1 lead and Kievits got an insurance goal near the end of the first half off an assist by Klye Larkin.
Dordt was out shot 16-10 with six of Morningside's shots getting on frame and Dordt had three for the game. Verwolf recorded three saves for the Defenders as they fell to 9-8 overall with one game remaining. Morningside is 10-6-1 overall and 8-3 in the league. The Defenders will host Midland Lutheran on Saturday, October 31 in the regular season finale for both teams.
