Dordt College Men's Soccer vs. Briar Cliff

(Sioux Center) After two overtime losses this season the Dordt College Defender men's soccer team earned a double overtime win over the Briar Cliff Chargers on Tuesday, October 6 in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Defenders got a goal in the 108th minute to win 2-1.
Briar Cliff scored first with a goal by Matt Boubel in the eighth minute only to have Dordt answer back 7 minutes later with a goal by David Miedema in the 15th minute of play. The two teams proceeded to play scoreless soccer for the est of regulation and the first overtime. In the second overtime the Defenders got the game winner off the foot of Phil Nywening for his fourth goal of the season to take the game that looked headed for a certain tie.
Dordt was outshot 19-8 but made the most of thos shots while limiting Briar Cliff to six shots on target. Dordt's Brian Verwolf recorded five saves and allowed one goal while Buddy Goodenkauf had four saves and two goals allowed.
Dordt is now 4-3 in the league and 7-5 overall while Briar Cliff slips to 3-3 and 6-4 overall. Dordt will face Jamestown (North Dakota) in a non-conference game on Saturday at 4:00 and will have a full week off before playing Hastings on Saturday, October 17.
