Dordt College Men's Soccer vs. Concordia (NE)

(Sioux Center) The Defender men's soccer team won it's second straight 2-1 decision in GPAC play to improve to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Dordt scored twice in the first half with goals coming 6 minutes apart in the 13 minute and 19th minute of action. Tom Stepanek (Sophomore; Hudsonville, Michigan)scored first when he hit a free kick from about 35 yards out that floated over the outstretched hands of Concordia keeper Chris Podlich and found the top right corner of the goal. Minutes later Devin Williams (Junior; Colorado Springs, Colorado)dribbled through the left side of the Bulldog defense before calmly burying a shot to give Dordt the 2-0 lead which they carried into halftime. Dordt outshot Concordia 8-4 in the first half. Stepanek's goal was his first of the season while Williams now has two.
In the second half it would be Concordia with the lone goal as they scored in the 55th minute when Raul Lopez played a ball over top of the Dordt defense that Kolt O'Kelly shot in to the bottom of the Dordt goal. Concordia pressed hard the entire second half but could not get the equalizer, outshooting Dordt 5-4 in the final 45 minutes.
Dordt keeper Brian Verwolf registered 2 saves in the contest while Chris Podlisch had 4 for Concordia.
Dordt will next play host to Northwestern College on Wednesday, September 30 at 4:00 pm.
