Dordt College Men's Soccer vs. Mounty Marty
September 22, 2009
(Sioux Center) The Dordt men's soccer team improved to 4-4 on the season and 1-1 in GPAC play with a 2-1 victory over Mount Marty this evening.
Dordt took a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute when Cody Glashower (Sophomore; Jenison, Michigan) scored on a penalty kick. Josh Brinkerhoff (Freshman; Branchville, New Jersey)gave the Defenders a 2 goal advantage in the 36th minute when he tucked a ball into the bottom left on a nice through ball from David Miedema (Sophomore; Zeeland, Michigan). Glashower now has 4 goals on the season with Brinkerhoff's total going to two.
Mount Marty spent the entire second half playing a man down but Dordt was unsuccessful in adding a third goal due to some tremendous goalkeeping by Mount Marty's Derek Otton who had 10 saves in the game. The Lancers cut the lead in half with 18 minutes to go in the contest when Jonathan Curiel netted his 9th goal of the season when he went in on a solo effort.
The Defenders outshot Mount Marty 20 to 9 and Brian Verwolf (Sophomore; Jenison, Michigan) had 6 saves for Dordt College.
Dordt will again be at home on Saturday, September 26 when they play host to Concordia at 3:15 pm.
