(Sioux Center) The Mount Mercy Mustangs scored in the first minute of play to take a quick 1-0 lead against the Dordt Defenders in today's non-conference match held in Sioux Center and the Mustangs went on to 4-2 win over the Defenders.

Jose Alvarez opened the scoring for the Mustangs by playing a ball from the high right corner of the 18 placing the ball neatly in the top left corner of the goal behind Dordt keeper Brian Verwolf. Mount Marty added to their lead in the 26th minute when a ball was played behind the Dordt defense that was finished by Nick Plagman who also assisted on the first tally.

Dordt cut the lead in half in the 39th minute when Cody Glashower (Sophomore; Jenison, Michigan) scored on a penalty kick. Mount Marty pushed the lead back to two goals in the 62nd minute as Vladimir Verovkic crossed a ball that was knocked into the Dordt net by Denis Drdzalic. The Mustangs pushed the lead to 3 in the 79th minute with Enrique Cortina heading the ball in on a pass from Nebojsa Jevtovic.

The final goal of the match came when Dordt freshman Josh Brinkerhoff (Branchville, NJ) cleaned up a miscue by the Mustangs keeper in the 86th minute.

Dordt keeper Brian Verwolf (Sophomore; Jenison, Michigan) recorded 1 save in the match while the netminding duo of Gabe Hodge and Nenad Simovic combined for no saves for the Mustangs.

The loss puts the Dordt record at 1-1 as they head into tomorrow's contest with Grandview with a scheduled start time of 3:00 pm.
