Dordt College Men's Soccer vs. Waldorf

(Forest City) The Dordt men's soccer team found the net five times and were helped by a Waldorf (Iowa) own goal to record a 6-2 season opening win on the road in Forest City, Iowa.
The Defenders pulled away from an early 1-1 tie to score four goals in a row before halftime to take control and roll to the win.
Cody Glashower (Sophomore; Jenison, Michigan) scored the first of his two goals with a free kick in the seventh minute. Waldorf responded with a goal in the tenth but Glashower helped Dordt retake the lead almost immediately with a goal off an assist from Roland Osae-Oppong (Junior; Vermillion, South Dakota). Three goals came quickly after with Jake Kloet (Senior; Salem, Wisconsin) knocking in an assist from Peter Mollema (Sophomore; Oak Forest, Illinois) in the 20th minute and Phil Nywening (Sophomore; Thamesville, Ontario) made it 4-1 in the 28th minute. Devin Williams (Junior; Colorado Springs, Colorado) capped the first half scoring with a goal off an assist from Glashower.
Waldorf actually scored both goals in the second half, one of their own in the 82nd minute and they kicked in an own goal in the 87th minute to make it 6-2.
Brian Verwolf (Sophomore; Jenison, Michigan) made one save in 70 minutes while Kurt Franje (Sophomore; New Sharon, Iowa) played the final 20 minutes.Dordt put 11 shots on frame to four shots on goal for Waldorf.
Dordt is 1-0 and will face Mount Mercy on September 4 in Sioux Center at 4:00. Waldorf falls to 0-1.
