Dordt College Men's Soccer vs. Dana
October 4, 2008
(Sioux Center, Iowa) Heading into the GPAC match with the Dana Vikings, the Dordt men's soccer squad was looking to accomplish two things. First, they were hoping to rebound from four straight losses in conference play and second, to get on the scoreboard after having been held without a goal in the last three contests.
Although the Defenders did manage to get on the scoreboard they did not end their losing streak, which now sits at five games.
Dana was first to tally a goal when Ernesto Bueno scored in the 28th minute of play to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead, which would stand until half-time.
Dordt was first to score in the second half when freshman striker Cody Glashower (Jenison, MI) got the equalizer by tucking away a ball in the 50th minute. The Dordt goal was the Defenders first goal in 409 minutes of action, a streak extending back to the 8th minute of play versus Doane on September 20.
The next 30 plus minutes of action would see both teams battle for the go ahead goal until Ernesto Bueno got his second of the match by hitting a well placed ball in to the top right corner of the Dordt goal in the 83rd minute of action to lift the Vikings to 2-1. That goal would not prove to be the game winner as Dordt fought back and scored in the 90th minute of play as Siam Grobler beat the Dana keeper with just over 30 seconds left on the clock.
Unfortunately, 30 seconds proved to be all the Vikings needed as they took the kick-off and went right up the middle of the field with Thor Brown scoring the game winner with just 15 seconds to go in the match.
Freshman keeper Brian Verwolf (Jenison, MI) had 14 saves in goal for the Defenders. Dordt was outshot 24-9 in the match, with Dana also having the edge in shots on goal 17-5.
Dordt will try to get it's second conference win when they travel to Briar Cliff on October 7, with the match beginning at 4:15 pm.
