Dordt College Men's Soccer vs. Dakota Wesleyan
September 17, 2008
(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College men's soccer team got off to a good start in Great Plains Athletic Conference play by defeating Dakota Wesleyan 4-1. The two GPAC squads battled back and forth for 37 minutes until Kevin DeGroot did a nice job finishing a long ball in from Andrew Wubben. Andrew Wubben added another assist when he sent a nice pass in to Siam Grobler in the final minute of the first half to give the Defenders a 2-0 lead.
Coach Schenk reminded the team at half-time how important the next goal was and the team responded well by scoring their third goal when Phil Nywening showed great composure in a one-v-one situation with the Wesleyan keeper.
Dakota Wesleyan fouled the Dordt College clean sheet by scoring with five minutes remaining in the match to put the score at 3-1. Dordt quickly responded with a goal of their own one minute later when Jake Kloet buried a shot from 20 yards out.
Jordan Huisken had 4 saves in goal for Dordt while Dakota Wesleyan's keeper Jordan Werner registered 6 saves on the night. Dordt had 13 shots while Dakota Wesleyan finished with 10.
