Dordt College Men's Soccer vs. York

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt Men's Soccer squad got their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory over non-conference opponent York College (NE).
A pair of freshmen tallied the goals for Dordt adding to the freshman tally in the women's game. Cody Glashower (Jenison, MI) got the scoring started in the 30th minute by finishing a ball struck by Darin Keizer (Hull, IA) that rebounded off the crossbar. Dordt nearly added a second goal in the 42nd minute when Andrew Wubben (Bradenton, FL) ripped a ball that narrowly missed to the right of the goal.
Phil Nywening (Thamesville, ON) gave the Defenders a 2 goal cushion in the 60th minutes by neatly tucking the ball in the net after it had been directed into the six yard box by Devin Williams (Colorado Springs, CO).
"We played fairly well most of the match and did a much better job making runs forward. We still need to work more on finishing the opportunities that we get up front" said Coach Schenk. "We also lost our shape in the back on a couple of occassions and we were fortunate that they did not finish well."
Freshman Brian Verwolf (Jenison, MI)had the clean sheet in goal for Dordt College.
The Dordt men are now 1-2 on the season on will begin conference play on Wednesday, September 17 with a 4:45 pm home match against Dakota Wesleyan. York falls to 1-4 on the season.
